FUEL ECONOMY
Are you driving from gas station to gas station looking to save on your next tank of fuel? Well, look no further than under your hood. There is no magic device that you can install to your ignition or fuel system that is going to make it all go away. We cannot control the price of gas, but you can control how much fuel you can burn by proper maintenance and how you drive. Here are some great tips to help you save on your next Fuel Fill Up:
- CHANGE YOUR ENGINE AIR FILTER, Your air filter is recommend to be replaced every 15k miles. by changing your air filter you can improve your fuel mileage by as much as 10%. This will keep dirty particles from damaging the inside of your engine and helps it run more efficiently.
- SLOW DOWN AND OBSERVE THE SPEED LIMIT, We are all in a hurry and forget that aggressive speeding, aggressive braking and accelerating in short distances can burn as much as 49 cents per gallon. So, follow speed limits, use your cruise control during highway driving and walk to the corner store.
- HOW MUCH DOES YOUR CAR WEIGH, Do you keep all your belongings in your trunk or heavy item inside your vehicle as storage? Well, get it out of there and put your vehicle on a diet. Just by keeping the vehicle at its regular weight, you can save up to 5% on your next fuel tank.
- MAP YOURSELF, Do you take the same route everyday because your favorite coffee shop or restaurant is on your way. Google map your route and see if there is a simpler way to get there. Just by adding 1 or 2 left turns you can avoid several red lights. For every 2 minutes your sitting still waiting for the color green, your vehicle is burning the same amount of fuel as if you drove 1 mile. By mapping your routine, you could save up to 19% on your overall trip.
- GET FLUSHED, Many of you have heard about injection system flushing and fuel system tune-ups. Keeping your vehicle well tuned will help clean up varnish and gum build up in your engine. FLUSHING YOUR FUEL INJECTORS will help maximize the injector spray pattern. DECARBONIZING YOUR ENGINE helps clean the top of the valves and combustion chambers to stop future engine stalling and hesitation. CLEANING YOUR THROTTLE BODY helps lubricate the varnish and build up to help fuel and air mixture efficiency. These three services are recommended to be done every 30k miles and should be done at the same time for best results.
- AIR UP, By making sure your tire pressures at the correct psi, you can save 0.04 cent per gallon of fuel
BY DOING A FEW SIMPLE LIFESTYLE CHANGES YOU CAN GET IMMEDIATE RELIEF AT THE GAS PUMP. WE CANNOT STOP THE RISE OF FUEL BY ANY MEANS, BUT WE CAN EDUCATE OURSELVES. THE NATIONAL AVERAGE PER GALLON IS $3.29 AND ON ITS WAY PAST $4.00 PER GALLON. TAKE A FEW SIMPLE STEPS AND EVALUATE YOUR HABITS AND MAKE FUEL-EFFICIENCY YOUR GOAL FOR 2012….
SHOULD I WARM UP MY CAR BEFORE DRIVING?
ARIZONA BEING A WARMER CLIMATE STATE WE NORMALLY DO NOT HAVE AN EXTREME COLD WEATHER IN THE CITY. BUT, ON COLDER MORNING IT’S ADVISABLE TO ALLOW YOUR ENGINE TO WARM UP. GIVE IT AT LEAST 1 TO 2 MINUTE WARM UP TO GET ALL THE FLUIDS MOVING, AND THEN DRIVE OFF GENTLY.
THE VAST MAJORITY OF CARS ON THE ROAD TODAY USE ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION. WHEN YOUR CAR’S ENGINE IS COLD, THE COMPUTER TELL THE FUEL INJECTORS TO STAY OPEN LONGER, ALLOWING MORE FUEL INTO THE ENGINE TO HELP IT RUN COLD. AS THE ENGINE WARMS UP, THE INJECTORS LET IN LESS FUEL AND EVERYTHING RETURNS TO NORMAL.
WARMING UP PRIOR TO DRIVING WILL ALLOW YOUR EXHAUST SYSTEM TO GET UP TO TEMPERATURE FASTER SO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER CAN DO ITS THING AS YOU DRIVE AND YOU’LL HAVE LESS FUEL CONSUMPTION.
A BIRDS EYE VIEW
We have all heard of the “blind spot”
The next time your in your vehicle, take a few minutes and check that your side view mirrors
are adjusted properly. Here is all you have too do.
smaller blind spots mean you’ll crane your neck less. Try this: set your rear-view mirror as you normally would. Then tilt it upward so you sit up straight. Lean your head against the driver’s window, then set your left mirror so you can see the back corner of your car. Lean right and do the right mirror…
SAFETY TIPS
Imagine driving hundreds of miles and suddenly the car breaks in the middle of some strange city. You have no idea where to go or where to call. This can be prevented in most cases. There are several things you should do just before a long road trip during the winter. There are several things that can lead to break down:
- Heater and Air Conditioner: Definitely important to have a working heater in the winter. Your Air conditioner and heater system also does your defrost and that is very important on cold days.
- Wipers: Wiper blades should be changed annually, but can be ruined when used on a frozen windshield.
- Lights: Very important for night driving especially in extreme weather to be visible as well as for you to see and be safe.
- Brakes: You don’t want to find out your brakes were almost gone while you are driving down a mountain somewhere far from Florida.
- Leaks: This is important to make sure a vital part of your car isn’t failing or could fail on a long road trip. Also you could quickly run out of oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant, or power steering fluid, which can cause another problem down the road.
- Belts: A broken belt can cause a world of nightmares like a bad engine, or drained battery. These can leave you stranded for sure.
- Hoses: A real quick reality check is having a hose blow out on the highway and you don’t realize it till your engine is overheated and blown. Hoses can be visually checked and most of the time these annoyances can be taken care of before your trip.
- Tires: No one wants to be out on the road with a flat tire much less loose control of your car because the tires are bald and weren’t doing their jobs. Heater and Air Conditioner: Definitely important to have a working heater in the winter. Your Air conditioner and heater system also does your defrost and that is very important on cold days.
Thinking ahead before your road trips by getting your car checked would be the smart idea to do. We make sure that all your car’s needs are met.
